San Angelo Development Corp. approved nearly $1 million incentive
City board approves incentive for Glazer distribution plant
The San Angelo Development Corp. approved nearly $1 million to incentivize the creation of a regional beer distribution center. The incentive - $930,000 to Farmer’s Branch-based Glazer’s Distributors for the retention of 45 jobs already in San Angelo and the creation of 79 more - will pay the company $7,500 per job, said Kathy Keane, SADC executive director. The jobs average a salary of $34,000, with benefits adding $9,000 to the average contribution per employee.
The incentive must be approved by the City Council before going into effect.
Glazer operates a plant on West Loop 306 south of Knickerbocker Road.
It recently bought the building, which it had been leasing, and will renovate it into the distribution center. Glazer plans to invest at least $7.2 million in converting the plant.
It’s a shame that Abilene was not able to keep the Glazer company. They will have an office, but the plant locating in San Angelo will pull many jobs away from the Abilene area
